For this project, our task was to design a bench in inventor then 3D print it. The requirements was that it couldn't have straight lines and that it needed room to fit a backpack of sorts underneath of the bench.
Sketches
This was my sketched idea that I had for the bench. It was fairly simple but I really liked the design.
Inventor/Makerbot
This is the final product that I had in inventor. I started out by making a box with the divisions that I wanted. Then, extruded out certain parts to get the design I wanted.
After finishing my bench in Inventor, I took it over to Makerbot and got it ready to print. This is what my file looked like in Makerbot.
3D Printer/Final Product
After Setting up my file in Makerbot, I then had to take the file over to the 3D printer. This is the my bench right when it was starting to Print
Finally, after around 7 hours later my bench was finished. This was my final product.
Summary
In conclusion, this unit was really enjoyable. Not only was it fun to design a bench that potentially could be created in real life, but it was also fun to use inventor in a new way. In order to complete this project I needed to find a way to design a bench without any angles. This forced me to use new tools like the filet tool. In the end, I learned a lot from this project and it helped improve my skills using Inventor. Now I am confident that I can design a new variety of things if I need to in the future.
