Customized Scooter
In this class, our job was to spend the semester designing an building one project. This could be whatever we wanted but the only rules were that we had to use three different machines in the lab. I decided to make a customized scooter that could be ridden by anyone. I choose this because it is pushing the boundaries of what I can do and I want to challenge myself. The three machines that I used to make this project is are the 3D printer, CNC router, and the Laser cutter
Gantt Chart
This is my Gantt chart. I created this to be a timeline on when I should finish my different parts and mark my milestones. This was really helpful in making my project cause it helped me stay on track with completing different parts of my project.
Inventor/MakerBot 3 Printer
The first machine that I used was 3d Printer. I designed a phone holder to put onto my scooter to carry my phone. I started out my designing it in inventor then printing it out using MakerBot.
This is the file in MakerBot before it was resized
This is the final print that would be printed by the 3D printer
CNC Router/Fusion 360
The second machine that I used was the CNC Router. I first designed the deck of my scooter in Fusion 360. Then, I set up my file in Fusion to prepare it for the router. Finally, I plugged my file into the router to cut out my board.
Laser Cutter/Illustrator
The third and final machine I used to make my final project. In Illustrator I created a design to use the laser cutter to cut out grip tape to put on the deck of my scooter. After finalizing the design, I took the file to the laser and plugged the file into the computer. Then, I set up the laser properly so my print would come out correctly. Finally, the laser cutter cut our the grip tape and I was ready to apply the grip tape onto the deck of my scooter.
Assembly
After using all three machines, I had to put everything together. These were the steps that I took to assembly my scooter:
After taking apart my Razor scooter, I had to then assemble all the piece onto my new scooter.

Summary
This year for Big Idea was a lot different then I thought it was going to be. The pandemic really put a wrench in the amount of time we got. If I learned one thing from this class is that a deadline always comes faster then you think. Throughout the winter months of this semester, I really didn't do much work. I kept telling myself that there was plenty of time. Well as the deadline got closer, I started to get worried about finishing. Luckily I was able to finish but it was very close. In the end, this class was a lot of fun and it allowed me to bring out my creativity which is very rare for a high school class. I'm hoping that sometime in the future I can do something like this and use machines like the laser cutter to complete even cooler projects.
